The World in the Making

The world seems to take shape from below, through impacts and emergences, before its outlines settle. The 1979 composition arranges a sequence of jagged forms along a central band, like dark reliefs suspended above a blue-grey base. Violet, deep blue and brown model the upper profiles, while ochre, pink and warm grey surface within and spread through soft transitions. The contours alternate sharp points with nebulous edges; slender diagonals and visible joins cross several fields without organising them into a grid. The beige ground remains broad, especially above, allowing the group to read as one continuous mass, internally articulated by variations of tone and density.
