Inhabiting Waiting

The figure inhabits waiting with the full weight of the body, gathered in a space that offers no answers. A large nude or barely outlined figure occupies the right side of an interior built from colour fields. Broad and rounded, the body is rendered in violet and brown veils and crossed by many reconsidered lines; the head inclines slightly, one arm descends at the side and the other merges with the torso’s contour. A vast green-turquoise area expands across the foreground and meets a succession of beige, grey and black planes at left, interrupted by a pale compartment. Oblique lines converge between figure and ground, destabilising their separation. Irregular edges, stains and transparencies keep the body within the same mobile matter as its surroundings.
